ON YOUR TOUR

The walking tour will begin at the mailbox for the Alaska Botanical Garden (ABG), found at the beginning of the walkway. After a brief wildlife safety talk, the tour will begin with the entry beds as we work our way up to the front gate.

Once inside the fence and plaza area we will stop to talk about the history of ABG and the long history of dedicated volunteers and staff that helped transform ABG over the last 33 years. We will follow the half mile paved loop around to the several perennial gardens, research plot and outdoor classroom.

The tour will conclude with the Greenhouse, the newest addition to the Botanical Garden. Finally, we will exit through the retail nursery and gift shop, where you can browse for keepsakes from your tour.

Please note that the season and weather will ultimately determine the plants that we see. April-mid May can be early for some plants and the gardens might be muddy and or slushy. Peonies are usually in full bloom from mid June to mid July. Mid September might be a little late for some plants. Tours over the winter months are conducted outside and will focus on the history of the Garden. Tours in Spring, Summer & Fall will cover the history of the garden and I will also identify some plants along the way and add some local tidbits. I am not a Master Gardener or Botanist, but I can identify most plants at ABG. *Until 1/31 ABG is decorated for Holiday Lights 5-8pm Wednesday-Saturday
